Every year I try to go somewhere nice for a week or two with my girlfriend. We’re not too bothered where we go – the man criteria is some good sun! Last year we headed out to the Greek island of Rhodes and we had a great time, but we like to go somewhere different each year, and this year we were having real difficulty deciding where to go.

We had been to about six different countries in the last six years since we had been together and we were running out of ideas! We were both limited by cash, and after you have done France a couple of times, the south of Spain, a couple of Greek Islands and Turkey it gets a bit difficult to come up with somewhere new.

We were both in the pub one night when we were talking to one of our friends. They said that they had had a great holiday a couple of years ago down on the south coast of Portugal, and it had apparently been fantastic. The weather is meant to be scorching and he said that the food and scenery was amazing, and it had been one of the cheapest holidays he had been on in a while. To be honest this was all the information we needed! It really sounded like it would fit the bill.

As soon as I got home I started to look for cheap flights to Algarve online. I found some cheap tickets within minutes!

Needless to say my friend was right, and we had a wonderful week in the Algarve!

London is famous the world over for its fantastic old theatres, and anyone visiting this magnificent city could do worse than to take in a musical production at one of its top theatres. My favourite theatre in London has always been the Palladium. For years this fantastic place has been stage to some of the finest plays and musicals. Next year, the new production being played out in this old building is The Wizard of Oz. There is enormous interest in this production, and people are curious to see whether it will go the way of Cats, which enjoyed a record breaking run in the capital city. It is anticipated that the show will probably sell out for at least the first half year of its run, so if you want the chance to be one of the lucky people who get to see it, you need to book your Wizard of Oz tickets as soon as possible.

Of course, there are many other fine theatres to visit in London, but perhaps none with the charm and history of the Palladium. Visitors should be wary that it can be difficult to navigate your way out of London after a show, and parking nearby is sometimes tricky. I would always advise people to make a couple of days of it and book into a nearby hotel. This area of London has so much to offer besides trips to the theatre, and I am sure an extended visit to coincide with the Wizard of Oz would be well worth it.

Ever since my friends and I finished our College course we vowed to go away together every year, no matter where we were or what we were doing in life. We travelled through Asia, we spent a month in Portugal, but we never had so much fun as the month we spent travelling through France in a camper van.

It was one of those occasions where we hadn’t really seen each other for most of the year. We were all spread out all over the country and we weren’t all that good at keeping in touch. Because of this the mood seemed just a little bit brighter that year, as if we had all been holding out for this trip.

Every aspect of that trip was great but the real highlight was the time spent in Paris. It was quite a significant detour considering we were headed from Brittany to Biarritz, but we all wanted to go and all we had was time. We had heard all the way through Brittany that there were lots of cheap hotels in Paris so we knew that it wasn’t going to cost an arm and a leg.

I never expected it, but the best thing for us about Paris was the nightlife! The clubs were amazing and we came across a couple of great live music bars too. Of course, the time came when we really had to move on but I think our week in Paris was the highlight for everyone.

I have always been passionate about seeing bands perform in intimate arenas and that is normally the location for my favourite gigs, but a while back one of my favourite touring bands was coming to England and I really felt like seeing them play somewhere really big. I am a massive Kings of Leon fan and they have such an enormous sound that I wanted to see what they could fill! The 02 Arena has a capacity of 23,000 and I knew that Kings of Leon would pack it out.

After waiting online for the tickets to become available I managed to get two tickets in the scramble. I couldn’t actually believe that we had got tickets to such a highly anticipated show! I had convinced myself to such an extent that I would miss out that I hadn’t even given any consideration to the difficulties of finding transport or accommodation. I did a quick search there and then for flights down to London and for cheap hotels in London and luckily found a fairly cheap flight and what looked like a decent hotel for me and my friend to stay in.

Once we arrived at the venue I was amazed by its sheer size. It was bigger than anywhere I had ever seen anybody play, but I was starting to think that this could be a good thing. I was not disappointed! The Kings of Leon more than handled the size of the venue and the fantastic sound in the Arena meant that everything was heard. I now have to say that it is the best gig I have ever been to, and probably the best gig I will ever see!
